Font de Sant Patllari (Saint Patllari Fountain)

The Font de Sant Patllari is located in a tucked away place and it is a favourite among local residents because it pays homage to the town’s patron saint, Saint Patllari.

Its surroundings and magnificent natural setting makes it one of the most special fountain sites. There is also a stone slab near to the fountain which features and inscription of poetry by Joan Maragall.

The legend of it tells that a Benedictine monk took the relics of Sant Patllari from the Embrun Cathedral in the French Alps by hiding them in a barrel carried by a donkey. As they approached Camprodon, the donkey stopped and beat his hooves on the ground three times causing three streams of water to start to flow.

During the annual Sant Patllari major festivity (21 June), Camprodon’s local residents come together at the fountain for a traditional communal lunch, finishing off with a dip in the Ter River. Local musicians play ancient songs to accompany the various stages of the event, from the walk out to the fountain to the final swim, and despite starting off sedately, the general atmosphere becomes more and more riotous as the day goes on, crowned by the euphoria of the swim at the end.
