Mare de la Font

As in other places, the expression ‘Mare de la Font’ (Fountain’s mother) is used to refer to a fast flowing natural spring that feeds several spring sources.

This fountain has been in existence since at least 1611 and it represents one of the largest fountains in the area, as well as being the closest one to the town center. This fountain is located in the middle of a wide pathway, flanked by fields that used to stop at Les Rocasses, the boulevard named Passeig de Ferrer Bàrbara. Thanks to the fountain’s abundant flow of water and the ease with which it can be accessed, both on foot and by car, it remains a popular place used for collecting water. Its spacious square, its setting and its waters serve to make it a meeting and recreation point, as it also has a picnic area.

Set within large enclosure with a frontal wall, it is inscribed with verses by Jacint Verdaguer. Furthermore, small fortresses that were built by soldiers can still be found close to it.
