Can Roig
With its Modernist style, impressive grandeur and ornate splendour, the Can Roig building is a unique example of the romantic architecture of the Girona Pyrenees area.
The Can Roig house was built between 1900 and 1901 as a second residence on land provided by the Campa family. During the republican retreat, Camprodon had become a large military hospital and Can Roig was also used to receive these wounded.
The significant compositional complexity, the medievalizing elements and the excesses in terms of the materials used in the façade make Simó Cordomí’s work an imposing and singular building, that is a unique and well-known local landmark. The main gate, which is now missing, was gothic and profusely ornamental, covered by neo-Romanic arches crowned with battlements.
Although in an advanced state of deterioration, it was restored in 2022 and recovered the splendor of the beginning of the 20th century.
